3. Property Updates: Carmen Building - 101 W. Linwood
Old Hyde Park NA submitted application to designate as a historic site.
Designation has been approved by historic preservation on March 22nd, 2024.
Next step is the May hearing with the city planning & development commission.
Drexel hall owners are extremely concerned about the building.
After demo was cancelled, the security fence was removed and issues rapidly developed with graffiti, illegal dumping, etc.
Owner wants to demolish building for speculative site for 15-story highrise apartment building.
4. Guests –Sherry McHenry from the Neighborhood Services Department/Codes.
Ms. McHenry will be a regular invitee to future board meetings.
In 2022, the city set a new mission to work with neighborhoods on codes-related issues in a less punitive manner.
5. Two upcoming clean-up events:
• Great KC Clean Up – Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9 am- noon.
Meet at Armour and Baltimore for bags, gloves.
Complimentary food from Urban Café food truck
• 38th Street Task Force – Monday, April 22 at 5:30 pm.
Meet at 3788 Washington to clean 38th Street.
Route: 38th Street from Southwest Trafficway to Broadway
6. Old/New Business
Approved construction on garage is beginning at 3800 Walnut.
36th & Wyandotte – owner was a no-show at Historic Preservation hearing contesting painting brick without obtaining Certificate of Appropriateness.
Westminister townhouses at 36th and Walnut are still waiting for builder.
Discussion and decision to save the Carmen Building. Old Hyde Park's objectives are to establish a dialogue with the owner and resolve the safety issues that have come with the owner's neglect..
7. Next meeting date moved up one day to June 18th, 2024 due to Juneteenth holiday.
